Shape and Model from Specular Motion

چکیده
This work investigates visual characteristics of specular surfaces during rotation, and gives approaches to qualitatively identify and quantitatively recover shapes of these surfaces. Continuous images are taken when an object rotates. We look at specularly reflected patterns on the surfaces and their motion in the EPIs parallel to the rotation plane, from which estimation of each surface point and construction of the object model are carried out. We find very simple and direct methods to fulfill this objective; linear equations for multiple lights illumination, and a lstorder differential equation for single light illumination. The motion of specular rellection has nice global characteristics in EPI. The surface types range from very shiny metal surfaces to surfaces with only week specular reflectance. We give both simulation and experiments on real objects.

Acquiring a Complete 3D Model from Specular Motion under the Illumination of Circular-Shaped Light Sources
ÐIn this work, we recover 3D models of objects with specular surfaces. An object is rotated and its continuous images are taken. Circular-shaped light sources that generate conic rays are used to illuminate the rotating object in such a way that highlighted stripes can be observed on most of the specular surfaces. Surface shapes can be computed from the motions of highlights in the continuous i...
متن کاملUnique specular shape from two specular flows
When a curved mirror-like surface moves relative to its environment, it induces a motion field—or specular flow—on the image plane that observes it. This specular flow is related to the mirror’s shape through a non-linear partial differential equation, and there is interest in understanding when and how this equation can be solved for surface shape. Existing analyses of this ‘shape from specula...
متن کامل3-D Model-Based Motion Compensation from Multiview Facial Image Sequences using a Specular Light Re ection Model
A method for estimating the position, shape and 3-D motion of the human head from a multiview image sequence is presented. Threedimensional motion is estimated by using an approach which also takes into consideration the photometric e ects of motion, assuming a specular illumination re ection model. Gauss-Newton optimization is used to estimate the illumination and 3-D motion parameters. An ell...
متن کاملEffects of surface reflectance on local second order shape estimation in dynamic scenes
In dynamic scenes, relative motion between the object, the observer, and/or the environment projects as dynamic visual information onto the retina (optic flow) that facilitates 3D shape perception. When the object is diffusely reflective, e.g. a matte painted surface, this optic flow is directly linked to object shape, a property found at the foundations of most traditional shape-from-motion (S...
متن کاملSpecular Flow and Shape in One Shot:
The reconstruction of specular shape from images is a very challenging task, especially when the illumination environment is unknown. In such cases, the problem becomes more tractable once the camera observes relative motion between the object and the environment, which induces a type of optical flow field that has become known as specular flow. Unfortunately, however, the estimation of specula...
متن کاملSpecular motion and 3D shape estimation.
Dynamic visual information facilitates three-dimensional shape recognition. It is still unclear, however, whether the motion information generated by moving specularities across a surface is congruent to that available from optic flow produced by a matte-textured shape. Whereas the latter is directly linked to the first-order properties of the shape and its motion relative to the observer, the ...
